2025 Ceremony of MOrth.

A landmark ceremony celebrating the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) was jointly held in November 2025 by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Medicine and College of Stomatology.

The event marked the successful completion of the prestigious international MOrth examinations. It brought together leading global dental authorities, distinguished academic faculty, and newly minted members to celebrate a shared commitment to excellence in orthodontic education and clinical practice.

Fostering International Academic Collaboration

The ceremony commenced with formal opening remarks highlighting the deep, ongoing academic ties between the UK and Chinese stomatology communities. Prof. Grant McIntyre, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, delivered a keynote address. Prof. McIntyre — who also serves as a Professor in Orthodontics at the University of Dundee and Consultant Orthodontist at Dundee Dental Hospital & Research School — commended the high caliber of the candidates and praised the collaboration with the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, a premier institution for stomatology in China.

Honoring Academic Excellence and Certificate Issuance

A key highlight of the event was the formal presentation of MOrth certificates to the successful candidates. Dressed in traditional academic regalia, the new members stepped forward to receive their credentials directly from Prof. McIntyre.

The ceremony concluded with a group photograph featuring the new members alongside the RCSEd delegation, local hospital leadership, and distinguished senior examiners who oversaw the rigorous examination process.

Significance of the MOrth Partnership

The MOrth qualification from RCSEd is globally recognized as a premier benchmark of specialist clinical competence in orthodontics. By hosting these examinations at the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, the partnership continues to bridge the gap between eastern and western dental expertise, ensuring patients benefit from world-class orthodontic standards.
